A blue cocoon dreamed of becoming a butterfly. She lived inside herself, struggling to bloom from the world she had woven around her until one day, she imagined her wings. And there they were! A beautiful pair of mauve-blue, sheer wings that looked like viola petals but were strong enough to use the wind to their advantage…to initiate aviation.
This is a light Indigo coloured, handloom cotton, kimono sleeved kaftan overlay dress with side tie ups and beautiful Herringbone hand embroidery accents.
Handloom cotton is a type of fabric that is woven using hand operated looms. Two sets of interlacing yarns, the warp (length) and weft (width), are woven on a mechanised loom operated by weavers. These looms do not use electricity. Human handling lends the fabrics a unique feel and renders the fabrics more value. The resultant fabric is softer and much more comfortable than machine-made fabrics. Handloom cotton is more breathable and thus feels lighter in summers and is perfect for layering in winters.
The art of hand weaving is labour intensive and takes a longer time. But, the beauty it adds to the fabric is priceless. Choosing handloom cotton supports the rich weaving heritage of India and lets the weavers carry on the precious art-form to the future generations as well.
The Herringbone hand-embroidery on the overlay garment is done by a group of beautiful women artisans at Suta. This dress has an easy-fit that allows space for freedom of movement, breathability and flow. This can be styled separately as well as part of an ensemble.
