My family had decided to throw me a party when I was accepted into the university of my choice in Canada. I’d worked really hard for this acceptance, which made this celebration even more special. On the day of, my parents and I woke up early to prepare the food. My best friend came over to help and together, we tackled the dessert, the toughest recipe on the menu. Halfway through it, I was disheartened as it wasn’t turning out the way I wanted it to. I didn’t have enough time to over and I was panicking. My best friend rushed over and consoled me. She promised me we would fix it, no matter what.
She rummaged through the refrigerator, emerging with a basket of assorted berries. She used these to make a rustic crumble, which we served with vanilla ice cream. It proved to be the highlight of the evening. And, just like that, she’d saved the day and planted a smile (now stained with the juice of roasted berries) on my face.
May this lovely grey handloom cotton saree remind you of all the friendships you hold dear.
Handloom cotton is handwoven by our weavers on mechanical looms. The process is time and labour-intensive, using techniques that have been passed down across generations of artisans. The resultant fabric is extraordinarily soft, breathable and resilient, and also drapes very well. Using handloom cotton not only helps us to work with smaller weavers but also plays an important role in reducing the environmental footprint of the garments we produce.
