Dear Diary,  

I made a friend. It’s been eight months since I’ve moved here, and I honestly thought I’d have an entire circle of friends by now. But making friends as an adult is difficult and maintaining those friendships is even harder. My new friend Kiyana is from Assam. I met her at the free yoga session we’d both signed up for. My downward dog knocked hers right over and before we knew it, we had been politely reprimanded for laughing a little too loud and for a little too long. It amazes me how alike Kiyana and I are, and yet how different. Like me, she is both bewildered and bemused by this city. Unlike me, her past experiences and memories are rooted in a time and place that I know little of. Our lives before we met were nothing alike. And yet, here we are, forging the first chapter of what might be the rest of our lives together. I’m still hesitant to call Bombay my home, but with each day that passes, it feels as though my roots to this city are growing deeper and more profound.
