Sujata Biswas
Sujata Biswas Co-founder, Suta
An alumnus of IIFT Delhi, Sujata Biswas began her career in the corporate world, but it wasn’t long before she realized that something was missing. During visits to her hometown, she often found herself in conversations with traditional weavers. Their stories marked by financial instability, lack of recognition, and the gradual fading of age-old skills deeply impacted her.
These interactions planted the seed for a much larger purpose. Sujata felt a growing responsibility to act. With no prior experience in the textile industry, she took a bold step leaving behind the predictability of her job to pursue a vision rooted in empathy and change. Her goal wasn’t just to work with artisans but to empower entire weaver families by creating a sustainable ecosystem that celebrated their craft.
Sujata’s leadership at Suta is driven by this commitment to community, authenticity, and inclusivity values that remain at the heart of the brand today.
Taniya Biswas
Taniya Biswas Co-founder, Suta
Taniya Biswas holds a degree in engineering and an MBA from IIM Lucknow. She began her professional journey with leading organizations like the Tata Group and IBM. However, after nearly three years in the corporate sector, she chose to follow a more creative and entrepreneurial path.
A keen observer of people, art, and the natural world, Taniya has always been drawn to stories that lie beneath the surface. Her creative pursuits in photography and design gradually led her to experiment with clothing particularly handwoven sarees that carried a sense of nostalgia and simplicity. What began as a personal passion soon evolved into a business idea when her designs sparked unexpected interest from an online audience.
Realizing the potential and the gap in the market, Taniya began travelling across India sourcing fabrics and working closely with skilled weavers in regions like Varanasi, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Meghalaya. Her eye for detail, appreciation for minimalism, and deep respect for Indian craftsmanship helped shape Suta’s design philosophy.
Today, Taniya leads the brand’s creative vision, ensuring every product tells a meaningful story rooted in heritage and timeless aesthetics.
