I made sure to wake up extra early to accompany my grandmother to pluck flowers. We would then sew them into garlands or arrange them in bouquets. The trail leading to the riverside was full of wild blooms, trees and shrubs. I noticed my granny talking to the plants and kissing the fresh blossoms. One day, I asked her, ‘Why do you talk to plants? You know they cannot answer you?”

While those sweet summer mornings are only a fragment of my memory, each visit to my village reminds me of her words. They remind me of the importance of giving and being open to love.
