It was our first marriage anniversary and we had grand plans. We both took time off from work, and made flight and hotel reservations. But then, the pandemic had different plans for us. Home-bound due to the lockdown, we had to make do with wishing each other that the morning and resuming our routine office work, sitting in two different rooms.

Although I put on a brave face, internally, I was crushed. With no means to make the day special, I was worried that it would turn out to be as mundane as any other. But then, I wasnt ready to give up so easily “ I began to scour the internet for ideas and found a few recipes. I tried to make jalebi from scratch for the very first time. I also made pasta and pizza from scratch. And, for the final touch, I wore a saree that he had gifted me for my birthday.

When I stepped into the balcony, it was it was dark save a small candle. I could see him in his tuxedo, holding a bottle of wine. Just as I had surprised him, so had he.

Our lockdown anniversary, our very first anniversary, was nothing like wed imagined. Yet, it brought us closer together in ways we could have never conceived.

Handloom cotton is handwoven by our weavers on mechanical looms. The process is time and labour-intensive, using techniques that have been passed down across generations of artisans. The resultant fabric is extraordinarily soft, breathable and resilient, and also drapes very well. Using handloom cotton not only helps us to work with smaller weavers but also plays an important role in reducing the environmental footprint of the garments we produce.
