What You will Recieve: 1 Saree
She was her students’ favourite teacher. For she was the only one who could possibly make dull history lessons interesting. She infused life in them, so that history was no longer a relic stored in textbooks but an entity that her students could experience, if only they exercised their imaginations.
That morning, they were to learn about India’s spice trade. She told them about how the Arabs had monopolised the spice trade, guarding their treasure from prying European eyes (and taste buds). They would make up wild stories about where the spices were found, so that no one would dare venture to find them. They said that cassia grew in swamps, guarded by dangerous, bat-like creatures. And that huge birds would make their nests out of cinnamon sticks. The cinnamon could only by obtained after luring these birds to huge chunks of meat, which they would carry to their nests. When the nests would fall apart due the added weight, the locals would collect the cinnamon. The stories were as masaledar than garam masala and that’s what made her (and them) so memorable.
This gorgeous black saree made of modal viscose is an ode to all the spicy treasures of your ‘masale ka dabba’.
Viscose and modal are fibres derived from plants. They comprise a compound called cellulose, which lends stiffness and support to plants. This cellulose is extracted and then realigned, to create a fabric that is soft, durable and breathable. When both the fibres are combined, modal imparts lightness, and a fine feel to the fabric. Both the fibres are responsibly sourced and have a low carbon footprint.
