Satin is a type of weave that produces a glossy, smooth and lustrous material. Traditionally, pure satin was made only of silk and was produced mainly in ancient China. Satin weave fabrics are flexible, luxurious and drape excellently, and they are widely used for ornamental and festive purposes. The satin fabric used in this piece is made of pure silk. Silk is a natural fibre produced by the cocoons of silkworms. The shimmering appearance of silk is attributed to the prism-like structure of its fibres. While being smooth and soft, pure silk is also extremely durable and not slippery.
